This summer Nikita Shvedov returned to BioAscent to take up a permanent position in the Biosciences team as an Associate Scientist.

Nikita first joined BioAscent in September 2022 to complete a one-year industrial placement as part of his Masters’ in Biochemistry at the University of St Andrews. His placement was focused on a specific project to develop novel strategies for identifying small molecules that activate or enhance enzyme function.

Commenting on his placement experience, Nikita says: “I really enjoyed the opportunity to put into practice what I had learnt at university, and to have access to a much wider range of equipment. Working on a specific project was very useful and informative, and I learnt a lot during my placement.”

Nikita completed his Masters’ this summer, and whilst looking for opportunities, he saw that BioAscent were advertising for a number of roles and decided to apply. He joined BioAscent as an Associate Scientist in August.

“It is great to be back at BioAscent and to be working alongside a fantastic team who are knowledgeable and supportive. It is very different to being a placement student when I worked on my own project. I am now involved in multiple customer projects and carry out regular compound screening. The role is really varied, and I learning new techniques as I build up my experience.”
